The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana Tech is pleased to announce an opening for an Assistant Professor (non-Tenure track) with Data Science expertise and/or research interests. This position has three years of guaranteed grant funding, with the possibility of additional support beyond that date. Montana Technological University, a regionally accredited college in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, primarily offers degrees in the sciences and engineering. The Mathematical Sciences Department offers undergraduate majors in Mathematics (with options in applied mathematics and statistics) and Data Science. The normal teaching load for this position is 3-6 credits per semester with a maximum of 9 credits per year. The primary responsibilities will include conducting research with members of the INBRE network and running professional development workshops related to Data Science techniques. Additional responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, advising Data Science majors, overseeing capstone projects, and designing courses and curriculum for the Data Science program.

Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field awarded by start date
- Demonstrated research expertise in data science areas such as: Machine/deep learning, big data mining and analytics, topological data analysis, data driven modeling and prediction, rich media data processing, database systems for analytics, quantitative social science, statistical learning, etc.
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to teach courses using Python and R
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience at the college level in mathematics, statistics, and/or Data Science
- Experience working with health related data
- One page statement of current research interests
- List of courses taught in the past three years
- Copies of graduate transcripts, unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
