DUTIES:
As the chief academic and administrative officer of the LCME, the Dean is responsible for the college’s operations, financial and faculty resources, student recruitment, and fundraising. The Dean oversees ten departments and thirteen academic degree programs that include the major engineering branches of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering; legacy programs in Environmental, Geological, Metallurgical & Materials, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering; and specialty programs in Safety and Industrial Hygiene, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity and Network Administration, and Construction Management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An earned doctorate in an engineering discipline from a regionally accredited university and the rank of full professor or credentials commensurate with appointment as a tenurable full professor in the Montana Tech School of Mines and Engineering
- Current professional engineering (PE) licensure or ability to obtain PE licensure within one year following appointment
- At least four years of university administrative experience at a regionally ABET-accredited academic institution as the chair of an engineering department or as assistant dean or dean.
- Administrative experience must include oversight of graduate programs.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Excellent leadership and management abilities that include faculty and technical staff supervision, ABET accreditation guidance, and budget development and administration.
- Experience with implementing and employing leading-edge instructional methods and technologies to support teaching and learning.
- Ability to obtain external research grants, oversee undergraduate and graduate level research programs, and mentor student researchers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Superior communication skills, political acuity, and capacity to effectively represent the School of Mines and Engineering to various constituencies, including students, faculty, alumni, the community, and the industries served by the SME
- A record of developing constructive and collaborative relationships with departments and faculty in other colleges and other universities
- Understanding of the impact and importance of the extractive industries to modern society and commitment to ensuring their future success by addressing challenges in global energy and resource development, management, and distribution.
- Proven success in attracting and retaining faculty and students and particularly those from underrepresented populations in engineering
Quantifiable success in developing resources and securing funding for a large, complex organization
Experience in new program development and implementation
