This position will resolve complex problems, research and implement new technologies, provide advanced technical support to all faculty and staff (regardless of which department/college they reside in), computer labs and classrooms, troubleshoot problems, answer questions, prevent/minimize downtime for both Montana Tech and Highlands College campuses. 

The Computer Support Specialist III is responsible for communicating with various vendors in order to troubleshoot/implement new campus technologies, assisting with the setup and maintenance of campus computer labs and classrooms, determining issues/solutions with hardware and software, writing training manuals and training users.

Along with being responsible for providing technical support for the entire campus, each Computer Support Specialist is assigned a department/college that requires specialized support for which they will perform the lead role.  This will include installation and maintenance of college level hardware, software, peripheral equipment and operating systems, researching, designing, implementing, maintaining, and documenting the technology required by that department/college.  This position will also be required to provide cross training to other Computer Support Specialists as well as the Computer Support Specialist Manager for the department/college for which they are responsible.

The hours of week for this position are generally Monday – Friday, 40 hours a week, 8 hours per day; however, there are occasionally times the person will be required to be on call and potentially work an alternate schedule.  Qualified applicants must have an Associate in Networking/Technology/Information Technology (or related field) or 4 years relevant experience.  It is preferred candidates have Bachelor of Science in Networking Technology/Information Technology (or related field); A+ Hardware and Software certification; understanding of hypervisor administration and maintenance; experience maintaining and debugging computer peripherals (printers, projectors, mobile devices, cameras, etc.)

Duties:
  • Day to day support for computer hardware, operating systems, software, and attached peripherals (scanners, printers, projectors, etc.) in faculty and staff offices, and student computer labs, ensuring effective operation at all levels
  • Prioritize problems for maximum effectiveness
  • Virus and Malware removal and protection
  • Server creation, installation and maintenance.  Administer and maintain:
  • Printer servers
  • File Servers
  • Network License Servers
  • Remote application server
  • Server for security cameras
  • Servers for inventory
  • Client imaging servers
  • Virtual servers supporting various functions
  • Design, implement and maintain multimedia classrooms to ensure a pleasant and productive learning environment.  Maintain computers, data projectors, document cameras, smart boards, sound system and video switching equipment.
  • Implement audio/video conferencing including point-to-point and point-to-multipoint video co
  • Oversight of existing audio/video equipment and PC components in conference rooms as well as
  • design/implementation of new audio/video components.  Assist other computer support specialists with the design/implementation of new audio/video components for classrooms.
  • Setup PCs, sound systems, and temporary network infrastructure for special events.
  • Maintain computer inventory, spare parts inventory, warranty information.
  • Data recovery and backups
  • Provide network troubleshooting and support to ensure clients have an optimally functioning network connection
  • Assist other Computer Support Specialists when necessary
  • Recommend hardware and software purchases and upgrades.  Keep up to date with new hardware and software releases, patches.
  • Research, develop and implement new campus technologies
  • Troubleshoot Blackboard Transact cash registers and vending machine readers.
  • Data removal of PCs for recycling
  • Assist network administrators with client configurations, maintenance and policy administrations as it relates to desktop computers
  • Support, recommend and install video surveillance cameras and recording devices
  • Design and implement classroom layout changes as updates affect them.  Ensure a pleasant and productive learning environment, while providing for security of computer assets.

Required Qualifications:
 
  • Qualifying candidates must have an Associate in Networking Technology/Information Technology (or related field) or 4 years relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • It is preferred candidates have Bachelor of Science in Networking Technology/Information Technology (or related field);
  • CompTIA A+ certification;
  • understanding of hypervisor administration and maintenance;
  • experience maintaining and debugging computer peripherals (printers, projectors, mobile devices, cameras, etc.),
  • experience utilizing SCCM (MECM), MDT, and WDS to facilitate imaging computer,
  • experience with A/V equipment.

  • Kneel, climb ladders 6 ft and higher, crouch
  • Carry equipment up a maximum of three flights of stairs
  • Move equipment via a cart across campus, which includes up and down hills
